Children’s Experience at Imants Ziedonis museum

A new children’s experience program at the Ziedonis Museum introduces young visitors to the Suns Funs character created by the great poet himself. The program includes a treasure hunt with various points around the museum grounds, a newly built Suns Funs house, and a raised-bed vegetable garden.

Imants Ziedonis (1933–2013) was one of Latvia’s most celebrated poets, essayists, and cultural figures, known for his vivid language and deep connection to nature and folklore. Among his many creations is Suns Funs—a playful and curious dog character that reflects Ziedonis’s whimsical imagination and love of storytelling, especially for younger audiences.

Today, Suns Funs has found a home in the poet’s museum. Our long-time partners, Imants Ziedonis Museum Foundation, commissioned Overpriced team to create a truly immersive children’s experience inspired by Ziedonis’s spirit and the character of Suns Funs—whose brand we also developed.

The design of the house references Imants Ziedonis himself, featuring an A-frame structure that complements the ensemble of buildings on site. Custom mini-sized furniture invites young explorers to arrange and experience the space in their own way.

The yellow color defines the Suns Funs experience—from riddles to interior elements—inviting children to explore and discover further.

Yellow elements mark the pathway of riddles, guiding little ones through the Suns Funs experience.

In addition to the children’s furniture, a small collection of seating for
all visitors was designed and assembled on site using wood sourced
from the museum grounds.

The experience was shortlisted for the 2024 Latvian Design Awards and, most importantly, has become a beloved destination for preschoolers and schoolchildren, who explore the Suns Funs world through play and curiosity.
